Soaking rain headed our way late week

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 14:21:38 GMT

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- After months without meaningful rain, our weather pattern finally turns more forgiving with daily rain chances increasing later this week.Spotty storms and showers will be possible this morning with another round of showers and storms possible this afternoon/evening. The entire day won't be wet but a few spurts of rain will be possible in each daypart. Be sure to keep the umbrella on standby. Now although we're fairly confident in rain falling between now and this weekend, the exact timing of these rounds will be tough. Unlike a large storm system sweeping across the area, this week's showers and storms will be determined by smaller disturbances in the overall flow interacting with a stalled cold front. One round of rain will determine the timing of the next round of rain... and so on. Increasing rain chances late weekThat being said, we're seeing good agreement that Thursday, Friday and Saturday will have the best rain coverage (scattered to widespread) so it'll be ...

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 14:21:38 GMT

As the Biden administration pursues its strategy of building resilient supply chains for the surging clean energy industry, one metals company has seen a substantial boost. Last month, TechMet, which is part-owned by the U.S. government, announced that it had closed a $200 million fundraising round. Celebrating more than $180 million invested in projects around the world over the last year, the company noted in a press release that “both the US President and Vice President have cited TechMet’s role as a leading critical minerals company in the global effort to combat climate change.”At the G20 summit last November, President Joe Biden touted a TechMet project in Brazil to mine nickel and cobalt for electric vehicle batteries. In a closed-door forum, tech titans will give senators advice on artificial intelligence

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 14:21:38 GMT

WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has been talking for months about accomplishing a potentially impossible task: passing bipartisan legislation within the next year that encourages the rapid development of artificial intelligence and mitigates its biggest risks. On Wednesday, he’s convening a meeting of some of the country’s most prominent technology executives, among others, to ask them how Congress should do it. The closed-door forum on Capitol Hill will include almost two dozen tech leaders and advocates, and some of the industry’s biggest names: Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg and X and Tesla’s Elon Musk as well as former Microsoft CEO Bill Gates. All 100 senators are invited, but the public is not. Schumer, D-N.Y., who’s leading the forum with Republican Sen. Mike Rounds of South Dakota, won’t necessarily take the tech executives’ advice as he works with Republicans and fellow Democrats to try and ensure some oversight of the burgeoning sector. But...
