UCLA student shot with BB gun in apparent hate crime attack Campus police at the University of California, Los Angeles are looking for two suspects involved in a potential hate crime shooting involving a BB gun.The incident happened at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday when, according to police, two people in a car approached a male UCLA student who was walking on De Neve Drive near Rieber Hall.“A rear passenger yelled a homophobic slur, then brandished a white BB gun and shot at the victim, striking him below the eye,” UCLA police said in a bulletin.The victim suffered a minor cut below his eye.Information about the suspects is extremely limited.Police say they were driving a white four-door sedan with an unknown make and model, and the driver was wearing a black ski mask.Anyone with information is urged to call UCLA police at 310-825-1491.

Another pedestrian hit, killed on 101 Freeway; thousands of drivers impacted Southbound lanes of the 101 Freeway through Hollywood were closed through the morning commute Wednesday after a pedestrian was hit and killed by at least one vehicle. The collision occurred around 4:30 a.m. near the Vermont Avenue exit.California Highway Patrol officers immediately blocked lanes, causing traffic backups that extended through the Cahuenga Pass into the San Fernando Valley. Surface streets were also backed up as thousands of commuters scrambled to find alternate routes.SB 101 was backed up through Hollywood after a pedestrian was struck and killed. Nov. 1, 2023. It was unclear why the pedestrian was on the freeway and no information about their identity was released.Traffic remained jammed through the early morning commute, but as of 9 a.m. Wednesday, the freeway began to open up.The incident comes just two days after another person was fatally struck on the 101 Freeway near the Santa Monica Boulevard exit in Hollywood in an early morning collision.

Highland Fire a week from full containment, Cal Fire says The Highland Fire, which ignited Monday in Riverside County, is now 15% contained, fire officials said on Wednesday.The blaze, which has reached nearly 2,500 acres in size, is expected to be fully contained by Nov. 8, Cal Fire said in an update. Despite some progress Tuesday night on the blaze near Aguanga, "extremely steep and rugged terrain remains a challenge," as do the Santa Ana winds and low humidity, the release said. Wildfire torches structures in Riverside County; thousands evacuated "The fire behavior overnight was minimal, with some minor creeping and smoldering observed," Cal Fire said. "Easterly winds are forecast to continue in the area through Thursday evening, which have the potential to push the fire in a west/southwest direction.
