Summer warning: Prolonged breath holds can cause shallow water blackouts The story of her husband’s tragic death isn’t easy to tell, but Michelle Brislen knows the dangers of shallow water blackouts are an important message to share – especially as summer break gets underway.“It was definitely part of my healing process. It still is,” Brislen, a San Clemente High School marine science teacher, said of sharing how her husband, Drew, died while he was out diving alone off Laguna Beach in 2011. “I felt it was so urgent, and I still feel that way. It’s so important.”That’s why Brislen visited to speak to the San Clemente Junior Lifeguards camp, to teach them of the dangers of shallow water blackouts, also known as underwater hypoxic blackouts, a silent killer of even the most experienced pool and ocean swimmers.Michelle Brislen, a marine science teacher at San Clemente High School, spoke to a group of junior lifeguards on June 15, 2023. Simple, 1-skillet chicken breast dinner evokes summer in Provence Sunny southern France, known for swaying fields of purple lavender buds, also is flush with all manner of aromatic herbs. Tarragon, fennel, savory, sage, marjoram, parsley, rosemary, thyme, mint, oregano and more grow wild.Any combination of them can make up the dried seasoning blend called herbes de Provence, a one-stroke flavor booster that evokes Mediterranean summer — and was introduced to Americans in the 1970s by Julia Child. We use it to great effect with bone-in chicken breast in this simple skillet dinner from our book “Tuesday Nights Mediterranean,” which features weeknight-friendly meals from the region. Before searing just the skin side of the chicken, we toss the blend with garlic, onion, bell pepper, tomatoes, zucchini and capers. We then sear the chicken and nestle it into the vegetables to roast in a 475℉ oven.Deglazing the pan with half a cup of dry vermouth is ideal for creating a sauce out of the flavorful browned bits left in the pan after searing the chicken. If the team doesn’t make a move to secure a draft pick, this will be the first time the franchise hasn’t participated in the NBA draft since 2005.Here’s how the Bulls got to this point.1. Where did the picks go this year? The Bulls could have had three picks in the 2023 draft — one first-rounder and two second-rounders. But all three picks have been ceded — either in trades or as a penalty — leaving the Bulls without a stake in the current action. When the Bulls traded with the Orlando Magic for center Nikola Vučević in 2021, they included a protected first-round draft pick in the package that ultimately fell to this year. The Vučević trade already cost the Bulls a...
